The Swedish biotech tools company Cellectricon has received orders from three of the
top five pharmaceutical companies. The orders verify that major pharmaceutical
companies will adopt the DynaflowTM technology which will be launched in large scale
August 2003.
Earlier this spring Cellectricon received a breakthrough order from
AstraZeneca for the patented DynaflowTM technology which enables aggressive
productivity increase in the drug discovery process. "The market response to our recent product launch, DynaflowTM technology, is gratifying
and we are pleased with the successful commercial launch of the company’s first product,”
explained Jakob Lindberg, CEO of Cellectricon. “We are extremely pleased that three of the
top five pharmaceutical companies have shown such a strong interest in our technology and
their orders are a proof that DynaflowTM drug-screening technology will be adopted by
others.”
Cellectricon’s first product, the DynaflowTM microfluidic chip, is a ground-breaking drug
screening tool that can be used by pharmaceutical companies to perform drug discovery
with high speed and accuracy. The DynaflowTM microfluidic chip is based on a
revolutionary microfluidic concept offering higher-throughput screening for drugs targeting
ion channels, which are instrumental for brain and heart disease therapy. The
DynaflowTM
technology offers dramatic productivity increase where several hundred compounds acting
on ligand- and voltage-gated ion channels can be screened in one working day, compared to
the current situation of an average of ten screenings per day. This higher throughput, by a
factor of 10-100x with better than patch clamp data quality, facilitates the drug discovery
process.
Cellectricon is a Swedish biotechnology tools company that develops microfabricated cellbased
tools for the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. Cellectricon works at the
interface between microtechnology and biology inventing products that will allow
productivity increases primarily in the drug discovery process. The company was formed
2000 based on an extensive and solid patent portfolio within different areas such as highthroughput
electrophysiology, patch-clamp, microfluidics, microfabrication, and
electroporation. The company has been expanding steadily and rapidly from the start,
growing from 2 to 28 employees today. Cellectricon is currently owned by Investor Growth
Capital, Innovationskapital, and Karolinska Investment Fund together with employees and
seed investors.
