PhD, Professor
Rune Toftgård has been Professor of Environmental Toxicology, Department of
Bioscience, at Karolinska Institutet since 1992. From 1991-1992 he worked as a Senior
Cancer Researcher supported by the Swedish Cancer Fund. Since 1992 he has also been
member of the study section on “Molecular Biology and Biochemistry” at the Swedish
Cancer Fund. In 2000 he was appointed Vice Chairman of the study section and member
of the research Board. Professor Toftgård has been Chairman of the “Cancer Research
Network” at Karolinska Institutet since 1996. He is an elected member of the Nobel
Assembly at Karolinska Institutet and was an adjunct member of the Nobel Committee in
1997 and between 1999 and 2002. His research fields are cancer biology and signal transduction,
with a special focus on the molecular genetics of skin cancer and the link between
embryonic development and carcinogenesis.
